FALL 2012
The Fourth Annual “Careers in Sport Night” hosted
by the School of Human Performance and Leisure Sci-
ences, was another major success as Sport Organiza-
tions from South Florida congregated on campus to
present career opportunities for Barry University stu-
dents. Organizations including the Miami Dolphins,
Miami Marlins, Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation, and
over one dozen other sport companies showcased their
career opportunities, connected with students, and ac-
cepted resumes. The event was well attended, as over
150 students, faculty, and staff members turned out for
what has become an important addition to the HPLS
academic program.
It was great to see a lot of the recent Alums return
representing their new employers and looking to hire
more Barry students.” remarked Leslie Nixon, J.D., As-
sistant Professor of Sport Management and facilitator
of the event.
Dean Kluka commented on the growing success of
Careers in Sport Night.
“This event, sponsored by the Department of
Sport and Exercise Sciences and the Career Center, is
one of the best organized and attended on campus.
Kudos to those responsible for its organization and
to those businesses/organizations that engage in the
event. It is clear that Careers in Sport Night is some-
thing that is not only memorable for all but beneficial
to bring young professionals together with business-
es/organizations for the present and future.”
HPLS faculty member Dr. Daniel Rosenberg had
this to add about the event.
“The evening provided students an invaluable
opportunity to network with industry professionals,
many of whom are Barry SES Alumni who recognize
the quality of a Barry education.  This is the fourth
time Careers in Sport night has been held and already

it has been credited with giving many of our students
entry into the sport industry. The event definitely
strengthens the Barry network within the sports
industry and is a ‘win-win’ for both students and
industry professional alike.”
As the growing Sport Industry job market becomes
more competitive, Barry University remains a leader
in providing opportunity for Sport Industry careers.
